Fellowship Project
Dr. Sun Miao spent four months (February – June 2012) at the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Washington D.C., U.S.A.) where he participated in the rotating display of the Chinese gallery and gained experience in exhibition design.
Biography
Dr. Sun Miao joined The Palace Museum in 2004 specializing in exhibition design. In 2006, he was admitted to the Graduate School of the Chinese National Academy of Art and received a doctorate in literature in 2009. Dr. Sun designed several exhibitions in the museum, including “The Orchid Pavilion”, “Special Exhibition of Selected Artefacts during Yongle and Xuande Reigns in Ming Dynasty”, “Special Exhibition of Stone Moat the Collection”, “Painting and calligraphy of Zhao Mengfu”and “The Fortune and Longevity of Sumeru: An Encounter between the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery and the Palace Museum”.
In 2007, he attended a short-term training programme organized by the British Museum. In 2015, he participated in a curatorial exchange project in France jointly organized by the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center and The Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain, to inspect the operation management and exhibition planning of French museums and art galleries. In 2016, he received sponsorship from the National Arts Fund and went to New York to participate in a curator exchange workshop.
He published several articles about his thinking on contemporary museums and his experience in exhibition design in journals such as Palace Museum Journal, The Forbidden City, Interior Design and Construction, Professional Lighting Design and Chinese Museum.
