Fellowship Project
Mr. Sun will visit
Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for eight months (March – November 2025) to conduct a research project on the technical exchange and mutual style reference between Canton Famille Rose (Guangcai), cloisonné enamel, and Western painting during the 17th and 18th centuries. Drawing on materials and objects from Dutch museum collections and archives, he will analyze the origins of Guangcai, as well as the impact of European coloring materials and painting techniques on 17th-18th century Chinese colored porcelain. This collaborative project will foster mutual understanding and knowledge sharing between the participating institutions.
Biography
Mr. SUN Yue joined the Palace Museum in 2004, being attached respectively to the Palace Museum Publishing House and then the Department of Objects and Decoration. Currently working in the Ceramics Team under the Department of Objects and Decoration, he is engaged in the preservation, display, and research of ancient Chinese ceramic cultural relics. From 2014 to 2015, he participated in the research project of “The Dresden Porcelain Project: Researching the Royal East Asian Collection and the Japanese Palace Inventories”.
Recent Development and Achievement
In recent years, Mr. Sun’s research mainly lies in the official kiln porcelain made in the mid to late Qing Dynasty (during Jiaqing to Xuantong reign), purple clay ware, and Chinese export porcelain from the 16th to 19th centuries. Since 2017, he has participated in the “Dresden Porcelain Project: Researching the Royal East Asian Collection and the Japanese Palace Inventories” project of The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Germany.
