Panel I - Conservation and Preservation of Museums' Collection
Four distinct aspects of conservation in architecture, paper, faiences and ceramics were discussed in the session, at which research collaboration among different fields was emphasized. Also discussed was how the curator could engage in scientific research - to support it, enhance it or drive it?
The sole use of single research result or data analysis would lead to wrong judgment, that art historians, archaeologists and scientists should discuss and understand each other more. Through bringing the art history knowledge of academics, artifact records kept by registers, excavation results from archaeologists, and artifact composition analyses by scientists, pieces are congregated for a more comprehensive picture of artifacts.
